SteelCo Buildings Supported the 2018 Covington Fuzz Run as Gold Sponsor

Cementing our commitment to the Covington-Newton County area, SteelCo Buildings acted as a gold sponsor for the 36th annual Covington Police Department’s Fuzz Run, providing $2,500 in support to the fundraising event. The company joined with other local businesses and residents to help champion the important cause that the annual race benefits.

About the Racefuzz run badge

Started in 1983 by Covington Police Captain Willie David, Covington Police Department’s Fuzz Run serves as a fundraiser for the department’s Police Who Care Fund (PWC). From the beginning, the event has included a 5k race and a one-mile fun run that wind through the beautiful and historic town of Covington. From humble beginnings in the 1980s through the 1990s, the race has grown in size and popularity each year for the past couple of decades.

The long-time custom is for the Fuzz Run to be held on the second Saturday in September, and this year was no exception. About 3,000 participants and spectators came out on Saturday, September 14th to join in the fun and fundraising, making the Fuzz Run the biggest annual participatory event in the city. This popularity is reflected in the accolades that the race has received: for the past four years, the Fuzz Run has been voted “Best Race in Georgia” by participating runners.

However fun the Covington Police Department’s Fuzz Run is, it’s important not to lose sight of the reason behind it. The Police Who Care Fund–which receives its primary income from the Fuzz Run’s participants and sponsors–supports a wide range of critical services in both the immediate Covington area and throughout Georgia. The PWC is committed to making a $1,000 donation to the next-of-kin of all Georgia law enforcement officials who perish in the line of duty. PWC supports City of Covington employees who are faced with natural disasters. The fund also contributes to a wide range of other charities, including the Special Olympics, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Project Renewal, the YMCA, Shop with a Cop, Miracle League and many more.

Clearly, the Covington Police Department’s Fuzz Run and the Police Who Care Fund represent some of the best of Covington’s community spirit. SteelCo’s commitment to supporting the Covington Fuzz Run is emblematic of our overall dedication to the local community and its residents, and this sponsorship is one of many that our company has made towards local events.
